Unlike ordinary paints, once applied onto the wall, Graphenstone’s paints absorb CO2 through a natural carbonation process. During the drying of the paint, a stoichiometric reaction occurs: the lime reacts with the carbon dioxide in the air, turning into calcium carbonate; that is to say, it becomes limestone again in a process is known as “the lime cycle”.
This CO2 absorption process is mainly concentrated during the first weeks after the application of the paint. However, the reaction is continuous over time, albeit on a smaller scale. The Indoor Air Quality Test carried out at the Roberto Gilbert Hospital in Guayaquil (Ecuador) measured the CO2 indices in the boiler room before and after applying our Ecosphere Premium paint.
The results of the test show a considerable reduction in the amount of CO2 in the room. Before painting, the CO2 value was three and a half times higher than the value reported after the paint application, going from 16,830 to 4,809 parts per million. This reduction made it possible to keep air pollution figures within the limits set by the Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHA), which are 5,000 ppm.
